Auckland Hill Remains Pinnacle Of Gladstone

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

The Albanese Government's investment in the liveability of our regions is paying dividends with the official opening of the upgraded Auckland Hill Harbour Outlook, made possible with a $5 million commitment.

A vista taking in the beauty of the harbour and surrounding ranges, the Auckland Hill Harbour Outlook has been a favourite for locals and tourists alike for decades.

The upgrades will provide an improved experience to an estimated half a million yearly visitors to the Gladstone region, with five viewing platforms to take in the sights of the harbour and surrounds.

The $11 million uplift installed an East Shores stairway for improved connectivity to nearby attractions, more car parking, and increased accessibility with new ramps and hand rails.

A new café, playground and bathroom facilities will ensure the site remains a drawcard for local families and deliver back to the local economy as visitors stay and dine nearby.

Following the official opening today, works will continue to improve the visitor experience even more, with installation of First Nations interpretive stories and artwork scheduled for completion in 2026.

The upgrades created 77 jobs in the local community during construction, and another 22 ongoing jobs in the Gladstone region.

Quotes attributable to Assistant Minister for Regional Development and Senator for Queensland, Anthony Chisholm:

"Our government is committed to delivering these quality-of-life upgrades for locals, which improve the visitor economy and create local jobs.

"These upgrades create an even greater family experience in Gladstone where locals can spend their Saturday morning grabbing a coffee at the local cafes and taking in these beautiful sights before wandering down to the museum, playground or water park.

"I'm passionate about regional Australia and ensuring our regional towns and cities have access to the kinds of modern facilities that visitors and locals alike can enjoy for years to come."
