Aussie Backyard Bird Count is on again

Want to participate in Australia's largest citizen science project?

Do you enjoy watching birds on your lunch break, backyard or on your weekend adventures? Know a little or a lot about birds?

Take part in this years' Aussie Backyard Bird Count.

This Monday is the start of National Bird Week (21 to 27 October 2019). To celebrate BirdLife Australia and the City of Greater Geelong are inviting you to pick up a backyard bird kit and participate in the Aussie Backyard Bird Count.

You can be a part of the biggest citizen science project in Australia. Thousands of people from across the country head out into their backyards, local parks or favourite open spaces to record local birds.

All you need is 20 minutes, your backyard or favourite park, and some keen eyesight or binoculars.

Record the birds you know and look up the ones you don't on the "Aussie Bird Count" App or website. You can see live statistics and information on how many people are taking part and the number of birds counted across Australia and near you. There are even prizes!

As well as learning more about your local birds, you will be contributing to an important pool of information across the nation to see how Australian birds are going.

To get involved visit the Aussie Backyard Bird Count website and to pick up your backyard bird kit just head to your local City of Greater Geelong customer service centre.
