Dept of Industry, Science and Resources

Australia joined over 100 countries at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi on 19 and 20 February 2026 to ensure AI delivers benefits to all.

Building on progress at the Bletchley, Seoul and Paris Summits, Australia joined others to endorse the India AI Impact Summit Declaration. This reflects the shared commitment of countries to advance trusted and inclusive AI innovations that benefit people and the planet.

The declaration calls for further international cooperation on AI across 7 themes:

  • human capital
  • inclusion for social empowerment
  • safe and trusted AI
  • science
  • democratising AI resources
  • resilience, innovation and efficiency
  • AI for economic development and social good.

Australia's participation in the summit advances the objectives in our National AI Plan, including making sure Australia can harness the opportunities of AI, share the benefits widely and keep Australians safe. It also shows our commitment to shape global norms for AI development and deployment to reflect Australian values and interests.

The summit was a chance to showcase the strength of Australia's AI ecosystem. More than 15 Australian companies took part in the AI expo and the #AIAUSTRALIA exhibition.

Australian researchers also took part in the research symposium held alongside the summit, to showcase the strengths of our research ecosystem. This includes working with experts across the world on the most recent International AI Safety Report.
