Australia launches international resources to enhance blue carbon management

The Australian Government has released 2 new resources to help countries enhance blue carbon management.

Australia worked with Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Fiji through our blue carbon partnerships to develop the:

  • technical advice manual for reporting coastal wetlands in national greenhouse gas inventories
  • blue carbon policy training course.

We announced the resources with our partner countries at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26).

The resources will help countries meet their nationally determined contributions under the Paris Agreement through enhanced blue carbon management.

Blue carbon is the storage of greenhouse gases in mangroves, tidal marshes, and seagrasses. Restoring and protecting these coastal ecosystems reduces emissions and benefits local communities.

See the technical advice manual and policy training course on the International Partnership for Blue Carbon website.
