Australia should seize offshore wind opportunity

The ACTU has joined calls for Australia to take advantage of its potential for a new offshore wind industry.

Ahead of today’s launch of a major new report into Australia’s offshore wind energy potential commissioned by unions and research bodies, ACTU President Michele O’Neil has called for leadership from the Morrison Government to accelerate the development of this new industry which has the potential to create thousands of secure jobs.

Quotes attributable to ACTU President Michele O’Neil:

“This report shows the potential for an industry which can provide thousands of good, secure jobs for workers all around the country. The Morrison Government should be doing everything it can to support investment in offshore wind, both to reduce emissions in Australia and to produce clean energy exports for the world.”

“So far the recovery from the pandemic has only created more insecure work. We need to start creating secure jobs that communities can rely on and that help us solve the big challenges of our time. Offshore wind is a great opportunity to do just that.”
