Australia will host the 2027 International Netball Federation (INF) Netball World Cup.
In another coup for the nation's calendar of major sporting events, Netball Australia won its bid for the championship event in what will be its centenary year.
Minister for Women, Marise Payne and Minister for Sport, Richard Colbeck, said the event will be another significant step in championing women's sport and participation.
"Netball is the number one participation event for Australian women and girls," Minister Payne said.
"The choice of Australia as host of the 2027 World Cup continues the momentum we have built with other major women's sports, notably co-hosting the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup with New Zealand.
"This latest success will deliver lasting benefits to netball by boosting our capacity to hold events and increasing community engagement.
"Women's sport plays a critical, frontline role in empowering women and girls and achieving gender equality.
"The Netball World Cup elevates the talents, expertise and leadership of elite female athletes to the global stage. Women are powerful agents of change when they are competing at the highest level."
The Australian Government provided $350,000 to Netball Australia to support the development of its successful bid.
The Cup will bring together 16 nations for 10 days of netball action.
The INF praised Australia's successful bid for the vision, design and legacy of the event.
It will be the fourth time Australia has hosted the Netball World Cup after Perth in 1967 and Sydney in 1991 and 2015.
Australia's Diamonds won gold at the 1991 and 2015 competitions.
Minister Colbeck said hosting the event will also provide a valuable opportunity to promote the power of women's sport across the world.
"Australia has an incredible track record of successfully hosting sporting events on a global scale," he said.
"And we know only too well how hosting events like this can boost not just our national profile but also the bottom line for businesses across regional centres as spectators jet in and make the most of everything Australia has to offer.
"After a tough period - it's something worth getting excited about."
Minister Colbeck said the event also served to reinforce Australia's national sport plan - Sport 2030.
"The Morrison Government is committed to strengthening Australia's sport industry to promote and sustain industry growth, including through major sporting events such as the Netball World Cup," Minister Colbeck said.
Australia's sports diplomacy strategy - Sports Diplomacy 2030 - also promotes Australia as a host of major international sporting events, Minister Colbeck said.
The Netball World Cup was inaugurated in 1963 and is held every four years.
