Australia Unveils Pathway to Diversity in STEM Review

Dept of Industry, Science and Resources

The government is embedding support for an equal and inclusive STEM-skilled future throughout its agenda. This includes major education and skills reforms.

The Australian Government committed to a Pathway to Diversity in STEM Review in September 2022. Its purpose was to find ways to break down barriers preventing diverse groups from getting involved in STEM.

Since then, the review has guided the government in many ways. This includes investing $38 million in improving diversity in STEM programs through the 2024-25 budget.

The government's statement summarises the actions it is taking to give all Australians opportunities along the STEM pathway.

It covers a whole-of-life approach to STEM diversity, including:

  • primary and secondary education
  • vocational education and training (VET) and universities
  • inclusive STEM workplaces and career paths.
