The Australian Alpaca Association (AAA) is thrilled to announce the return of its most anticipated event, the Australian Alpaca National Show, proudly celebrating 35 years of alpaca excellence. Running from 8 to 10 August 2025 at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds in Bendigo, this iconic event is free and open to all. From humble beginnings to becoming a cornerstone of the country's livestock scene, the AAA is proud to celebrate three and a half decades of passion and progress.
As the premier event of the Australian alpaca industry, the Australian Alpaca National Show offers locals and alpaca enthusiasts alike the rare opportunity to experience the finest alpacas and alpaca products from across the country, all in one unforgettable event. With more than 180,000 registered alpacas, Australia is home to one of the largest breeding herds in the world and proudly leads the globe in high-quality fleece production. Renowned for their exceptional fleece, alpacas produce one of the world's most sought-after natural fibres, celebrated for its softness, durability and sustainability. Their fleece comes in 22 naturally occurring colours, from pure white to black, along with a wide spectrum of browns, fawns and greys, making it uniquely versatile for fashion and textiles.
Australian Alpaca Association President Brett Fallon said that the Australian Alpaca Show invites people of all ages to discover the unique value of alpacas in sustainable agriculture and premium fibre production.
"Alpacas have become an integral part of Australia's agricultural sector, with more than 160,000 recorded around the country – earning us the mantle of being home to the second highest population in the Southern Hemisphere, behind Peru," he said.
"Our industry is thriving, and Australian alpaca breeders are internationally recognised for their knowledge and commitment to excellence; there's strong demand for our alpaca fibre, particularly in China, Europe and New Zealand."
Over the three days, the show will feature hundreds of entries, from beautifully handcrafted alpaca products to the star attraction of more than 300 Suri and Huacaya alpacas parading the ring. Judging will be led by highly respected Australian judges Peter Kennegy Gane, Shane Carey and Natasha Clark.
The Australian Alpaca National Show Convenor Jonathon Provis-Vincent said he is thrilled to be back for another year of fine fleece and alpacas, bringing the community together for this unique event.
"It's been an absolute privilege to help bring together Australia's premier alpaca event. The passion and commitment of our amazing team has made this a standout celebration of the alpaca industry," Jonathon says.
"This year's show is particularly special as we celebrate 35 years of the Australian Alpaca Association. It's a milestone that reflects how far we've come and we're proud to mark the occasion with a strong lineup of local judges. Each year, the event continues to grow, and we can't wait to welcome everyone to join in the celebration."
The weekend event is designed to entertain, inspire and shine a spotlight on the vibrant alpaca industry, with something for everyone. Explore 150 premium alpaca fleeces from top breeders across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia, alongside a wide selection of trade stands, offering everything from luxurious alpaca fleece products to unique, one-of-a-kind handmade crafts.
