Australian foreign minister to visit Maldives 17 October

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Dan Tehan visited the Maldives from 16-17 October to discuss economic cooperation with ministerial counterparts.

During the visit, the Minister met the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs HE Ahmed Khaleel, Ministers of State for Economic Development HE Neeza Imad and HE Mohamed Iaad Hameed, and Speaker of the Parliament HE Mohamed Nasheed.

The Ministers discussed cooperation on economic development, trade and investment, and tourism in the post-COVID environment, as well as security and environmental challenges facing the region.

Australia and Maldives have a shared interest in an open, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. Our two countries also enjoy strong multilateral cooperation, and we look forward to working together during Maldives' Presidency of the Seventy-Sixth Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
