Campaspe Shire Council is monitoring mosquito numbers, locations and potential public health threats as the weather continues to warm up.
Given decent rainfall is expected during the coming hot months, General Manager Development, Paul McKenzie, is urging the public to take precautions to avoid the potential of contracting blood-borne diseases such as Ross River virus.
"The combination of warm weather and wet conditions is when most mosquito breeding takes place," Mr McKenzie said.
"Take some time to check the condition of your home's flyscreens and remove any stagnant water where mosquitos could breed."
"Wearing loose fitting clothing, along with mosquito repellents containing DEET or picaridin, are your best defences, especially when outdoors at dusk and dawn."
"Council's mosquito monitoring program is underway, trapping and testing adult mosquitos for viruses in various locations across the shire through to April."
