AWH opens second Covid testing clinic

Albury Wodonga Public Health Unit will open a walk-in COVID-19 testing clinic in Wodonga from today.

Located on the corner of Smythe St and Stanley St in Wodonga (the former fire station building), the clinic will open from Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm, with no appointment necessary.

Albury Wodonga Public Health Unit's Jody Bellette said that the walk-in clinic would provide greater accessibility for Border region residents and easier access for those without vehicles.

"We have been operating our current drive-through clinic in Vermont St since the start of the pandemic in March 2020. The Vermont St clinic will continue to operate from 8am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday," Ms Bellette said.

The Vermont St and Smythe St clinics will also be supported by an additional pop-up testing clinic at Wodonga Racecourse, in periods of high demand. Please visit the Albury Wodonga Health website for the most up-to-date information on testing clinics.

"We know as a border community the threat of COVID 19 has a significant impact on the region. By providing a walk-in clinic we hope to increase the community's access to timely COVID-19 testing, and encourage locals to continue to come forward and get tested."

Ms Bellette said the planning of the clinic had placed a strong focus on local traffic management (particularly during peak times), as well as strategies for infection control.

"Reviews and assessments of both these factors will be an integral part of daily operations," she said.

"We have written to residents in nearby houses to let them know about the clinic opening, encouraging them to contact us with any questions and thanking them for their support."

Ms Bellette encouraged people to get tested if they show the mildest of symptoms, had been notified by the Department of Health to undergo testing, been to a red or orange zone in NSW, or visited an exposure site.
