In December 2024 the FMA launched our fintech regulatory sandbox pilot. With a focus on reducing unnecessary regulatory barriers and ambiguity for providers offering innovative financial products, the sandbox pilot enabled participants and the FMA to work in collaborative and creative ways to facilitate pathways to market. The pilot enhanced our understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by the innovation community and what we can do to reduce regulatory friction they face.
This report discusses the sandbox journey and what we learned.
It also includes an update on our approach to support innovation over the medium term.
