Bairnsdale historical child abuse investigation

Detectives from Bairnsdale Sexual Offences & Child Abuse Investigation Team are appealing for public assistance as part of their ongoing investigation into an historical sexual assault of a child.

Investigators have been told the incident occurred in a communal shower area of a hotel on Main Street, Bairnsdale in either 1989 or 1990.

It is believed an unknown man walked into the shower area witnessed the then 9 or 10-year-old girl and the male offender.

A number of patrons attempted to prevent the offender and the girl from leaving the hotel but were unsuccessful.

Detectives are appealing for the unknown witness, anyone who can identify the witness, or anyone who was present at the hotel that day, to come forward.

Anyone with information that could assist police with their enquiries is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

Victoria Police is committed to investigating matters of sexual assault and bringing those responsible to justice.

We encourage anyone who has been a victim of a sexual assault to contact police.
