Ballarat Community Input Sought for Northern Growth

The next step in bringing Ballarat's Northern Growth Area to life is underway and the community is being invited to help shape its future.

The City of Ballarat is encouraging community members to provide feedback to the State Government on the Ballarat North Precinct Structure Plan (PSP) and Development Contributions Plan (DCP), which are now on public exhibition.

The plans outline how the future development of Ballarat's Northern Growth Area (located approximately eight kilometres north of the Ballarat Central Business District) will look.

Recently rezoned to the Urban Growth Zone, the Northern Growth Area is set to accommodate approximately 5,600 new homes and deliver essential infrastructure to support a thriving, connected community. Key features of the draft plans include:

  • A neighbourhood activity centre
  • A local convenience centre
  • Community facilities
  • Sports reserves
  • Primary schools
  • A secondary school
  • Local parks and open space

City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Tracey Hargreaves said the public exhibition marks a significant milestone in planning for Ballarat's future.

"Community consultation is key to ensuring that a variety of housing opportunities for current and future residents are provided," Cr Hargreaves said.

"We look forward to working collaboratively with the State Government and the community throughout this process to deliver a high-quality outcome that supports liveability, sustainability and accommodates the changing needs of our growing city."

In addition to an online survey, drop-in information sessions will be held to enable community members to speak with State Government and City of Ballarat officers about the plans. The sessions will take place on:

  • Tuesday 30 September, 5:30pm online
  • Thursday 2 October, 1.30 - 5.30pm at the Ballarat Library
  • Friday 3 October, 9am - 12 noon at Stockland Wendouree
  • Wednesday 8 October, 7:30pm online

Public consultation opens today, with community members encouraged to view the draft plans and make a submission via the Engage Victoria webpage or Council's MySay page.
