Atlantic Canada's recreation facilities offer an inclusive environment where people of all ages participate in activities that promote lifelong well-being and community engagement. They also host exciting events that bring visitors and boost tourism. The Government of Canada is investing to help sports organizations in Nova Scotia foster healthy and accessible opportunities for residents and visitors.

Paddles Up for the Banook Canoe Club

Today, Darren Fisher, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and Associate Minister of Health, and Member of Parliament for Dartmouth-Cole Harbour, announced an investment of $115,128 to the Banook Canoe Club. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA.

This contribution helped the Canoe Club engage architectural and engineering expertise to draft plans for a historical revitalization. The Lake Banook Clubhouse will be modernized, making it fully accessible and safe for all athletes and visitors, while respecting the historic character of the building. A newly-launched capital campaign will help the organization raise the funds needed to complete its work.

Today's announcement further demonstrates the Government of Canada's commitment to supporting accessible and inclusive spaces.
