Murray River Council is set to deliver a major upgrade to Barham's main sewer pump station, ensuring the town's wastewater network continues to operate safely and reliably into the future.
Barham Sewer Pump Station 3, located off the laneway between Punt Road and Frank Street, is the primary outfall station for the township. The existing infrastructure includes a dry and wet well configuration; a design that is no longer used due to safety risks and maintenance challenges.
To bring the facility in line with modern standards, Council will replace the existing structure with a new, purpose-built wet well system.
Mayor, Cr John Harvie said the upgrade will deliver long-term benefits for the community.
"This is an essential project to ensure Barham's sewer system remains safe, reliable and compliant with today's standards."
"It'll be great to get this project completed to ensure continued reliability of our sewer services for the Barham community."
The project will provide multiple benefits, including improved safety for maintenance staff, reduced operational risks, compliance with legislative requirements and greater flexibility to support future growth.
Council has completed the detailed design and is now progressing through the tender process to appoint a construction contractor. Works are expected to start in the second quarter of 2026 and take around four months to complete.
During construction, part of the laneway between Punt Road and Frank Street will be temporarily closed. Council will work closely with nearby residents to minimise impacts and keep the community informed throughout the project.
