Cue the celebrations – the roundabout on Bayshore Drive is now open and the southbound detour is no longer in place!
"We are pleased to announce that the roundabout is now open and sincerely thank everyone, particularly residents and businesses, for their patience," Council's Acting Director Infrastructure Services, Christopher Soulsby said.
"Although we still have to finish the project, it is now open to light vehicles. People can now freely travel to their homes, pick up their shopping and Christmas treats at Byron Bay Fair, go for a meal at The North Byron Hotel, and pick up some Christmas pressies in The Habitat Precinct. Or visit many of the other fantastic retailers and eateries in the Byron Arts and Industry Estate," Mr Soulsby added.
"It's important to note that while we finish the project, heavy vehicles will still need to access Byron Bay Fair via Sunrise Boulevard until the project is complete, due to a temporarily restricted turning circle at the roundabout.
"During the Christmas holiday period works will be paused starting Saturday 20 December 2025. Work will resume on Monday 5 January 2026, and we expect to complete this project at the end of March 2026, weather permitting," Mr Soulsby said.
