Bayside Council is set to investigate community connection initiatives such as Chatty Cafés, which are designed to encourage informal face-to-face conversations and help reduce social isolation and loneliness.
As part of this investigation, Council will consider opportunities to establish designated "Have a Chat" tables or similar social connection spaces within Bayside libraries, community centres and other suitable Council facilities.
Council will also explore partnerships with interested local cafés and businesses to establish voluntary Chatty Café tables or sessions, provide designated "Happy to Chat" seating in appropriate public spaces, and consider opportunities for community organisations and volunteers to participate where appropriate.
In addition, Council will investigate the potential installation of Solar Smart Benches, incorporating features such as mobile device charging and free Wi-Fi, similar to those implemented elsewhere in Sydney.
A report will be submitted to a future Council meeting outlining implementation options, potential costs, partnership opportunities and the feasibility of delivering a small-scale pilot program at selected locations using existing Council facilities, programs and community partnerships.
