Bega Valley's libraries are participating in the National Simultaneous Storytime event on Wednesday 19 May, where guest speakers will read the story, Give Me Some Space by Philip Bunting, at the same time across Australia, and this year from space.

"Each year a picture book written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is selected and read simultaneously at libraries, schools, childcare centres, bookshops and many other places around the country," Council's Library Services Coordinator, Megan Jordan-Jones said.

"This year, astronaut Dr Shannon Walker will read the book from the International Space Station as it orbits the Earth."

Ms Jordan-Jones says this annual storytime event is a unique and fun way to promote the value of reading and literacy to all children up to Year 6.

"It celebrates an Australian writer and illustrator and promotes the inspiring concept of storytime activities in libraries and communities," she said.

National Simultaneous Storytime will start at 10.30am at Bega Library with author Gabbie Stroud, Tura Marrang Library with actress Michelle Pettigrove, Eden Library with author Barbara Toner and Bermagui Library with radio presenter Paul West.

The Bega Library session is for schools and is fully booked.

Bookings for Eden, Tura and Bermagui are essential, so get in early to get a spot:
