Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset will pay an official visit to Liechtenstein on Monday 19 January.
In Vaduz, the Secretary General will meet H.S.H. Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein, the Prime Minister Brigitte Haas, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Environment and Culture, Sabine Monauni. Meetings are also scheduled with the President of the Liechtenstein Parliament (the Landtag), Manfred Kaufmann, and the Liechtenstein delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
In his meetings, the Secretary General will discuss ways to further strengthen cooperation between the Council of Europe and Liechtenstein, as well as current political developments and risks to the international rules-based order.
Discussions are expected to focus on the need for European states to engage in a New Democratic Pact for Europe to enhance democratic security across the continent, the challenges facing European democracies posed by disinformation and foreign influence, and the next steps towards accountability and justice for Ukraine, including the International Claims Commission.
The Secretary General will also participate in a public conference on "The Council of Europe in a shifting geopolitical context".
Alain Berset will then travel to Davos, Switzerland, to attend the World Economic Forum on 19-20 January.
