More than 8,000 social housing households in NSW are saving hundreds on power bills thanks to energy performance upgrades under the Albanese Government's Social Housing Energy Performance Initiative (SHEPI).

The upgrades are keeping homes cooler in summer, warmer in winter and cheaper to run - helping social housing tenants to bring down their energy use, lower bills and cut emissions.

Together, the Australian and NSW Labor Governments are investing $320.3 million to upgrade around 24,000 public and community housing properties by June 2027 and an additional 13,500 social housing properties by 2029.

The NSW energy savings upgrades include ceiling insulation, solar systems, heat pump water heaters, air conditioning, draught proofing and electric cooktops.

Along with energy upgrades, NSW social housing residents receive practical information and guidance on how best to run their home as efficiently as possible with the new features.

Nationally, the Albanese Government is jointly investing $1.1 billion with states and territories for energy performance upgrades to 100,000 public and community homes over six years. So far, around 18,500 properties have been upgraded.

The initiative is part of the government's commitment to make homes cheaper to run, more comfortable to live in and better for the environment.
