Binghamton University to host second annual Holiday Sweater Contest to benefit Bear Necessities Food

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - It's that holly-jolly time of year. Time to sing festive songs, bake cookies, decorate trees-and wear really ugly sweaters! Binghamton University will host its second annual Holiday Sweater Contest to benefit the Bear Necessities Food Pantry on Dec. 5 and 6.

Member of the campus community - students, faculty and staff-are invited to don the most atrocious holiday sweaters they can in hopes of being crowned the tackiest dresser in Binghamton. Reindeer, snowmen, garish patterns and unsightly color combos - all are welcome.

"Our first Holiday Sweater Contest was a smash success, so we had to bring it back," said Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger. "Not only is the contest a fun way to celebrate as a campus community, but the food and goods that people drop off for the Bear Necessities Food Pantry are really helpful to students in need. I'll be there!"

Participants are asked to visit room B90 of the Lecture Hall basement (LH-B90) during one of two time blocks on the last two days of classes: 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 or Friday, Dec. 7. Each contestant will be photographed and their sweater will be assessed by a team of verified sweater experts. The three ugliest sweater wearers will win prizes.

Contestants are asked to bring food and personal care items to donate to the Bear Necessities Food Pantry, which assists students in need.
