A second case of bird flu has been detected in the Shoalhaven with Council advised that the H5 bird flu has been detected in an Australian tern at Dolphin Point.
As a precaution, biosecurity signs are being installed at Dolphin Point. The area remains open, with visitors encouraged to keep dogs on a lead, supervise children and avoid contact with sick or dead birds.
Acting Mayor Peter Wilkins said the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is leading the response to any detection of H5 bird flu in NSW.
"This is our second case in the Shoalhaven so it's important that our community stays vigilant and follows the advice of biosecurity authorities," Cr Wilkins said.
"We're working closely with state agencies to share accurate information with the community as it becomes available," he said.
Members of the public who see a sick or dead wild bird should not touch it. Instead, they should safely record what they see by taking photos or video, note the location, and report it immediately to the 24-hour Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.
