Body Found in Beecroft Peninsula Search

A body has been found following a multi-agency search to locate a missing fisherman on the state's South Coast today.

About 11.50am today (Sunday 1 March 2026), emergency services were called to Beecroft Parade, Beecroft Peninsula, following reports of a fisherman had slipped into the water.

Officers attached to South Coast Police District, with the assistance from Marine Area Command, NSW Ambulance and Surf Life Saving NSW, commenced a search to find the man.

About 12:50pm on the same day, a body of a man had been recovered from the water.

While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be a missing fisherman in his 50's.

A crime scene has been established, and police commenced an investigation into the incident.

Acting Inspector Adam Rigney from South Coast Police District says wearing a life jacket can be a key gamechanger in a life or death situation.

"South Coast region is well known for its beautiful beaches and marine leisure activities however, police would like to remind members of community that the ocean is unpredictable and people must consider safety as the top priority."

"While an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the fisherman is underway, police allege the man was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident and this is unfortunate."

"The message is clear. Please plan your trip by checking your equipment and the weather carefully. Be prepared for emergency situations by wearing an approved life jacket."

"Wearing a life jacket will save not just your life but also protect your family from possibly losing a loved one." Acting Inspector Rigney said.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
