Body Located, Lake Tekapo 18 June

As stated by Sergeant Warwick Worth:

A body has been located on the shore of Lake Tekapo.

On Wednesday 17 June, around 8.40am, Police were called with a report that the body of a man was seen in the shallows on the western shore of Lake Tekapo.

Police, along with other emergency services, attended and sadly the man was declared deceased at the scene.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the death are ongoing, however it is not being treated as suspicious.

Police can confirm this incident does not relate to the earlier incident on 12 June where the body of another person was retrieved from the lake.

The man is not believed to have family in New Zealand and Police have made contact with the relevant consulate in order for next of kin to be notified overseas.

The death has been referred to the Coroner.
