The body of a man has been located in the You Yangs Regional Park this morning following a desperate search for a missing mountain-bike rider, Victoria Police say.
The 55-year-old Geelong West man was reported missing about 11pm on Monday night after he failed to return home from a planned bike ride.
Police were immediately dispatched and the missing man’s Holden ute was located in Stockyard carpark.
The man, an experienced mountain-bike rider had left for his day of riding sometime between 8am and 12pm. He had packed a lunch and from all accounts, was well prepared.
A spare key which police used to open his car revealed he had not returned for lunch.
Concerns grew and with the assistance of Search & Rescue, Air Wing and SES the search went for some hours before the man’s body was located about 4.15am.
The death is not being treated as suspicious and police will prepare a report for the coroner.
