Body of missing swimmer located at Shoalhaven

The body of a teenage boy has been located in the Shoalhaven River.

About 6.30pm yesterday (Friday 31 December 2021), two teenage boys – aged 15 and 16 – went for a swim in the Shoalhaven River at Burrier, when one of the teens got into difficulty.

The pair attempted to get back to shore, before one of the boys – aged 15 – disappeared below the water and emergency services were alerted as members of the public commenced a search.

Since this time a joint multi-agency search has been conducted involving officers from South Coast Police District, police divers, NSW Ambulance, the TOLL rescue helicopter and the State Emergency Service (SES).

Just before 1.30pm today (Saturday 1 January December 2021), the body of the 15-year-old was recovered after being located by divers in the river.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
