Boomers and Canada set to clash as WA's biggest-ever winter of sport rolls on

  • Australian Boomers taking on Team Canada at RAC Arena over two games this weekend
  • Host of Australian NBA stars set to hit Perth - the Boomers' first local matches since 2014
  • Both countries to feature their 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup teams
  • McGowan Government delivering biggest-ever winter of sport for Western Australia
  • The Australian Boomers' NBA superstars have touched down in Perth for two clashes against Team Canada at RAC Arena this weekend as part of preparations for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Australian NBA players Patty Mills, Matthew Dellavedova and Andrew Bogut will line up against Canada's best this Friday and Saturday nights - a precursor to the countries' upcoming Group H matches at the World Cup in China.

The Boomers' star-studded line up also includes NBA players Joe Ingles, Aron Baynes, and Jonah Bolden.

Perth Wildcat Nicholas Kay will be joined on his home court by NBL counterparts Cameron Gliddon, Chris Goulding and Nathan Sobey. Six members of the 2016 Olympic team will also return for the Boomers.

The Boomers last played in Perth back in 2014, for the Sino-Australia Challenge where they defeated China in two games.

The matches follow an unprecedented winter of sport in Western Australia - with the State Government bringing world-class soccer, rugby league, rugby union, and basketball to WA shores in recent weeks.

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:

"We are delighted to add world class basketball into the mix of what is already shaping up as WA's biggest-ever winter of sport.

"Perth basketball fans will be able to take in the action from some of Australia's best NBA players, including Patty Mills and Matthew Dellavedova - as well as local Wildcats and NBL stars.

"The McGowan Government is committed to extracting as much value as possible from our world-class venues by booking these top-tier events - for the benefit of local tourism, small business and local jobs."
