Boost for artistic endeavours

A number of Logan creatives have received funding through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).
Ged Maybury has received a Regional Arts Development Funding (RADF) grant in the latest City of Logan funding round as the first step towards a stage production of his film.

A music collaboration project, art and science workshops and a gallery exhibition are among activities funded by the City of Logan's latest round of arts funding.

Five creative arts professionals have been awarded $32,265 collectively through Logan City Council and the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).

They include Ged Maybury who plans to host a film preview event at the Butterbox Theatre in the Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct in September.

Ged intends to use the event to create a showreel to attract future funding and stakeholders which he hopes will lead to a stage production of his film Edgetown.

RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Logan City Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

Lifestyle Chair Councillor Tony Hall said RADF gives creatives in the community a chance to further develop projects.

"We are supporting them to bring their ideas and dreams to life," Cr Hall said.

"RADF has backed the development of many interesting local projects in the past and we look forward to seeing more new initiatives come to life through the latest funding."

Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch said as part of this successful, long-term collaboration, the Queensland Government provided $2.13 million for RADF
2022-2023 to a total of 59 local councils, who contributed a co-investment amount of over $1.9 million.

"Established in 1991, RADF is a long-standing success story between the Queensland Government and regional councils, enabling local artists and arts workers to tell their rich and unique stories, boosting regional employment opportunities and other positive economic outcomes," Minister Enoch said.

"For 31 years RADF has provided a legacy of creating new art and cultural experiences for Queensland audiences and communities, and a platform for professional development and growth across the regional arts sector."

This round of successful RADF applicants also includes:

  • Cleon Barraclough for the composition of original music in collaboration with his band Wild Places and two Logan-based cultural choirs and percussion groups.
  • Belinda Topan for a mentorship from the Queensland Writers Centre to develop her skills and assist with finalising her fourth book.
  • Nadine Schmoll for local arts and science-based children's workshops leading up to The Living Together exhibition at Logan Art Gallery between Friday, December 1, 2023 and Saturday, January 20, 2024.
  • District Studios XCHANGE for creative development workshops for seven City of Logan creatives and cultural producers.
