Bayside Council is set to investigate a new above-ground water tank and other water harvesting options to supplement the Botany Golf Course irrigation system.
Currently the Botany Golf Course relies on the town water supply to water the greens, but a proposal for above-ground water tanks would provide a more environmentally sustainable source of water.
The existing pump shed and flow dispersal structures will be retained for potential future use.
An old water storage dam within Botany Golf Course, now redundant following bans on pumping underground water in the area, will also be decommissioned under the proposal.
The proposal will see the installation of a 100kL tank connected to the existing irrigation system. The storage tank would allow for roof-water harvesting from nearby buildings to be used to supplement water supply during non-drought periods.
It is anticipated that construction of both the new storage tank, irrigation connections and decommissioning of the existing dam could be completed by mid-2027, pending approvals, procurement and weather conditions.
