Kalgoorlie Detectives have charged three people as a result of their investigation into several fires that have occurred between October and November 2023 in Boulder and Kalgoorlie.
A 13 –year-old boy has been charged in relation to three fires that occurred in Wittenoom Street in Boulder on Sunday, 12 November 2023.
It will be alleged the youth entered a home under renovation and set fire to items inside the home. The property was engulfed by flames and completely destroyed.
It will be further alleged the youth twice entered the rear garden area of a property on Wittenoom Street and set fire to dry grass. Department of Fire and Emergency Services person were called to extinguish all three fires.
The 13-year-old boy from Boulder has been charged with:
• Three counts of Criminal Damage by Fire;
• Two counts of Trespass; and
• One count of Aggravated home burglary and commit.
He is due to appear before the Kalgoorlie Children's Court on 5 December 2023.
Detectives have also charged two youths from South Kalgoorlie after an incident at Digger Daws Oval in Boulder on Sunday, 12 November 2023.
It is alleged about 1.45pm, the youths gained entry into the club rooms at the oval and once inside, ignited three separate fires. It is also alleged they stole an item from the club room.
The boys, aged 13 and 12, both from South Kalgoorlie, have each been charged with:
• One count of Criminal Damage by Fire;
• One count of Aggravated Burglary and Commit on a Place; and
• One count of Stealing.
They are next due to appear before the Kalgoorlie Children's Court on 5 and 12 December 2023 respectively.
Kalgoorlie Detectives continue to investigate the above incidents as well as a fire that occurred about 1.45am on Thursday, 12 October 2023 at a restaurant on Hay Street in Kalgoorlie. The fire quickly spread, destroying the restaurant and a neighbouring business, an automotive workshop Performance Gas & Mechanical before being extinguished by Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
