Bradford Apartments, an undergraduate residence hall located one block east of Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus, officially completed its modernization process in time for the start of this academic year in fall 2025. Bradford residents now enjoy refreshed interiors with modern finishes, enhanced community spaces, optimized building accessibility, and added sustainability measures that align with the institution's environmental goals.
The upgrades, which were carried out during the university's summer break, were the building's first major renovations since 1991. The project focused on improving functionality, comfort, and aesthetics to create a welcoming and supportive living environment, including new kitchen cabinets and appliances, upgraded bathrooms, refreshed common areas, and new and refinished floors.
Each apartment also received new bed frames and mattresses. Used beds were donated to the Baltimore Furniture Bank and A Wider Circle, two local nonprofits that support people with housing needs.
The university's sustainability goals achieved during the project include installing Energy Star rated appliances, selecting WaterSense plumbing fixtures, and minimizing landfill waste through recycling and donation.
"This modernization of Bradford Apartments does more than just provide high-quality residential housing," says Lisa Freeman, executive director of On-Campus Living. "It also establishes vibrant spaces for students to engage with one another and build community. This project, along with others like the forthcoming AMR I replacement, reflect our continued commitment to creating an enhanced campus-living experience that meets the needs of our current and future students."
