Ararat residents are encouraged to book a free breast screen while the BreastScreen Victoria mobile clinic is in town at the Ararat Library car park off Queen Street until Friday 16 January. The service is operating daily and offers an easy opportunity to look after your breast health close to home.
The hot pink mobile clinic provides free breast screening appointments that take about 10 minutes, and no doctor's referral is required. Women aged 50 to 74 are especially encouraged to attend while the clinic is in Ararat, with women from age 40 also eligible to make a booking.
Ararat Rural City Council CEO, Dr Tim Harrison, said the visit from BreastScreen Victoria is a welcome boost for local health access.
"Having this service here in Ararat means people can fit an important health check around their everyday lives, without needing to travel or take a full day off," Dr Harrison said. "If you are eligible and due for a screen, or it has been a while since your last one, please make an appointment and encourage your friends, family, and workmates to do the same."
Early detection offers the best chance of finding breast cancer at an earlier stage, and the mobile service operates on a biennial schedule for rural and regional communities.
With the clinic only visiting Ararat every two years, Council is urging residents from across the municipality to make the most of the opportunity while it is available locally.
Bookings are essential, as appointment spots can fill quickly.
