Following the successful completion of its first year under Victoria's Better Environment Plan (BEP) - the state's first environmental improvement plan developed specifically for an industrial precinct - the Brooklyn Recycling Group (BRG) is proud to announce approval from EPA Victoria to commence Year 2 of the BEP. BRG comprises of foundation members Delta Group, ResourceCo, EcoGypsum & Fertiliser (Sunshine Groupe), and City Circle.
The BEP provides a strong and enduring framework for cleaner air, enhanced local amenity, and improved collaboration between industry, community, and government. Over the past year, BRG businesses have demonstrated a shared commitment to reducing dust, upgrading site operations, and supporting a more resilient circular economy through responsible resource recovery.
BRG's comprehensive Year 1 Report, submitted to EPA Victoria, outlined the progress made across the precinct and identified pathways for continuous improvement. EPA Victoria acknowledged these achievements and provided constructive feedback to strengthen future reporting, including the development of clearer and more measurable KPIs, stronger alignment between goals, and ongoing community communication. This collaborative approach ensures the BEP continues to deliver environmental, social, and operational benefits.
In Year 2, BRG will implement a series of coordinated actions to further reduce dust and enhance local amenity. These include deploying an integrated dust monitoring and response system across all sites, launching a large-scale vegetation planting project to act as natural windbreaks, and advocating for improved road maintenance to minimise dust from traffic.
Updated training programs will strengthen awareness of dust health impacts among personnel, while a dedicated Community Liaison Officer will lead engagement initiatives, including monthly updates and a circular economy education campaign. Independent audits scheduled for late 2026 will measure progress and identify opportunities for continuous improvement, ensuring BRG remains at the forefront of environmental leadership.
"EPA Victoria's approval for Year 2 reflects confidence in the precinct's efforts to date and in BRG's ongoing commitment to environmental improvement and transparency," said EcoGypsum's Christian Buxton, on behalf of BRG members.
"Year 2 marks a significant step forward for the Brooklyn Recycling Group. Our members remain committed to delivering practical, measurable improvements that benefit both the local community and the environment
"We sincerely thank EPA Victoria for their guidance and collaborative approach, which has been instrumental in helping us achieve these outcomes. Through innovation and partnership, we aim to set a benchmark for industrial precincts across Victoria."
A thriving circular economy is central to Victoria's long-term sustainability, and BRG remains committed to demonstrating industry leadership through cleaner air initiatives, responsible material management, and strong partnerships.
Transparency and community involvement continue to be core principles of the BRG BEP. Stakeholders can review meeting minutes, track progress, and access information about member organisations via the BRG website.
BRG welcomes enquiries from businesses and organisations interested in joining this strategic partnership and contributing to Victoria's first Better Environment Plan.
