Bridge Works Delayed

MidCoast Council

MidCoast Council has been advised by Wingham Cedar Party Creek Bridge contractor that the night work planned for this weekend has been delayed.

Recent rainfall has caused some issues and while it has only been put back a week, Council understands the frustrations may be felt throughout the community.

MidCoast Council's Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Services, Rob Scott, said the delay was unfortunate but necessary.

"Everything has to be ready to go before the night work starts as they'll be switching traffic onto the new bridge and closing the bypass. Once it starts, we can't go back," he said.

"The contractor incurred a few minor delays due to the rain the area received last week and unfortunately the night work has had to be put back."

As a result, the detour will now be closed on Thursday 13 November. During this time no traffic will be able to access Wingham via Wingham Road.

Traffic will be switched to the new bridge from 6am, Friday 14 November for the day, before the road is closed again that night with detours in place.

The planned closures will allow for the road works transitions to be completed on either bridge approach.

By 6am Saturday 15 November the new bridge will be open to all traffic. It will remain open for the remaining duration of the project, whilst the final earthwork and remediation is undertaken.

VMS boards will be located at Purfleet, Cedar Party Rd, Burrell Creek and Combined Street Wingham, notifying the community of the planned night works closure (6pm-6am) of Wingham Road.

The new design of the bridge raises it above the one-in-one-hundred-year flood level and provides an easier approach into the town.

The $39 million project is supported by a $28 million grant from the NSW Government's Fixing Country Bridges Program, and a $5 million grant from the Australian's Government Bridge Renewal Program and $6m from MidCoast Council.
