Brisbane City councillor Nicole Johnston says arrest due to 'misunderstanding'

After detained and charged with being drunk in a public place, Brisbane councillor Nicole Johnston has issued a media statement saying "a misunderstanding" led to her arrest.

"I believe this matter stemmed from a misunderstanding with a policeman when I could not catch a taxi and wanted to walk home from the city," she said in a statement.

"There were no allegations presented to the court, I was not required to attend court, and the matter is not being pursued by the Queensland police and, as such, has been finalised without a finding of guilt."

She also denied media reports about her being detained and refused entry to a bar.

"Reports today by the Brisbane Times online and other Fairfax outlets that I was detained outside a bar and refused entry to a venue are factually inaccurate and untrue," reads the statement.
