Brompton bollards stops driver in his tracks

A man has been arrested following a pursuit through North Adelaide and surrounding suburbs.

About 3.45am on Wednesday 6 December, police spotted a stolen white Nissan Skyline being driven south on Churchill Road at Fitzroy and turn to travel south-east on Torrens Road.

Western District patrols attempted to stop the car however it took off at speed.

The Nissan was pursued through the back streets of North Adelaide, then north onto Jeffcott Road, north on Torrens Road and through Renown Park.

Police continued to follow the car as it headed south on East Street at Brompton where it reached a dead end street. The car collided with bollards at the end of the road and the driver attempted to run from the scene.

The driver was caught a short distance away and arrested without incident. The 34-year-old man from Everard Park was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital where he is being treated for minor injuries.

A search of the stolen car located numerous power tools suspected of being stolen. Checks revealed the Nissan had been stolen on Monday 4 December from a Woodville North address.

The man will likely be charged with aggravated driving dangerously to escape a police pursuit, illegal use of a motor vehicle, aggravated driving without due care, driving in a manner dangerous, unlawful possession, stating false details and other outstanding offences.
