Building Best School Facilities In Dandenong

  • Minister for Education

Dandenong High School students are learning in the first-rate facilities they deserve with more cutting-edge buildings on the way, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Dandenong Gabrielle William today visited Dandenong High School to officially open the school's new library and to confirm the Labor Government will provide a further $8.4 million to complete the facilities upgrade.

Designed by award-winning architect Hayball and built by HLC Constructions, the school's newly refurbished $3 million library provides senior students with a specialised visual arts and media centre, giving them a leading-edge environment to learn and create in.

The final stage of the Labor Government's $11.4 million facilities upgrade at Dandenong High includes a new science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) centre to give students the educational setting needed to develop problem solving and collaborative skills.

A new canteen and state of the art food technology centre will provide students with hands-on learning to help launch them into the careers they want in the years to come.

The visit coincides with the 10th anniversary celebrations of the merging of three Dandenong schools in 2009 to form what is now Dandenong High School.

The Labor Government has invested $5.6 billion to deliver more than 1,400 school upgrades, supporting over 7500 construction jobs for Victorians.

A total of 100 new schools will open by 2026 under the Labor Government's school building boom, ensuring every child has a great local school and a great start in life.

This building boom will continue over the coming years, with the government having already appointed builders to start delivering 11 schools across the state that will open in 2020 and 14 schools that will open in 2021.

As stated by Minister for Education James Merlino

"I'm exceptionally proud to be here to celebrate Dandenong High School's 10th anniversary with students and staff. I'm also delighted to see the continuation of the building journey the school has been on ever since the Dandenong schools merged together to form this fantastic campus."

"Across Victoria, we are building and upgrading schools so our students have the best facilities, our classrooms have the best teachers and every child is given every chance to succeed."

As stated by Member for Dandenong Gabrielle Williams

"Our local schools are doing a wonderful job educating the next generation of leaders. These new facilities will open even more doors for our students."
