Building fire at Alberton

Police are investigating after a fire destroyed a business and numerous cars at Alberton last night.

Just after 9pm on Monday 4 September, police and fire crews were called to Port Road following reports of a smell of burning plastic coming from a business premises.

Fire crews were quickly on scene however the fire had taken hold of the building. Residents on nearby streets were evacuated from their homes for their safety. One resident was treated by SAAS at the scene for minor injuries.

The southern wall of the building collapsed which caused damage to vehicles parked nearby on Parker Street.

Port Road was closed in both directions for approximately four hours while crews battled the blaze.

Fire Investigators will be attending this morning to determine the cause of the fire.
