Building Relationships with Indonesia and Vietnam to Create Jobs

The Territory Labor Government is growing our export markets to create jobs for Territorians, and Minister for Primary Industry and Resources, Ken Vowles, will this evening leave on a trip to Indonesia and Vietnam to strengthen relationships with two of the largest importers of Territory cattle and buffalo.

Representatives from the NTs pastoral and live export industry will accompany the Minister to help promote the Territory as the supplier of choice when it comes to cattle and buffalo live exports.

The visit will build on relationships established during the Ministers previous visit to the two countries in December last year.

Mr Vowles will also use the trip as an opportunity for Arafura Games meetings in his role as Minister for the Arafura Games.

As stated by Minister for Primary Industry and Resources, Ken Vowles:

The Territory Labor Governments number one priority is creating jobs, and my previous visit to Indonesia and Vietnam showed there is plenty of room for growth in our live export industry.

Ministerial visits to countries we export to strengthen existing relationships and create new opportunities for Territory industries.

Representatives from the NT Livestock Exporters Association, NT Cattlemens Association and NT Buffalo Industry Council will join me on this trip, which will open doors for their organisations.

While in Indonesia and Vietnam I will also have meetings about the Arafura Games, which we are bringing back next year. Indonesia and Vietnam have both signed up to take part.

Mr Vowles leaves on Monday, September 10, and returns on Sunday, September 16.
