Building stronger communities with Rings stadium upgrade

Liberal Party Victoria

Ringwood families and residents are set to win under a new commitment announced today by the Liberals and Nationals to upgrade The Rings stadium.

The Rings is a key basketball and community facility in the outer east, currently providing four multipurpose courts, a kiosk, crèche facilities for its daytime competition, and a multi-function room.

This facility is home to the Ringwood Basketball Association, whose membership has grown by more than 60 per cent since 2010.

Other regular users include the Victorian Churches Basketball Association, Ariels VCNA, Maroondah City Council Holiday Programs, local schools, and casual users.

However, there is a clear need amongst the community for additional sporting facilities that can keep pace with local demand.

That's why a Matthew Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will provide $15 million towards a major upgrade of The Rings stadium, including:

  • Four additional courts, including a show court.
  • Increased seating for spectators and a new video scoreboard.
  • Improved changerooms for players and referees.
  • A redesigned reception area and mezzanine floor with function room.
  • Improved male, female and accessible toilets.
  • Energy efficient upgrades including an expansion of the existing solar energy system.
  • 100 additional carparking spaces under the extended facility.

This upgrade will ensure The Rings can continue to service growing Ringwood and outer-east communities well into the future.

Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy, said backing stronger, better-connected communities was a key part of the Liberals and Nationals' plan to recover and rebuild.

"The best way to support community recovery is by backing locals to get active and engaged once again. That is what this upgrade is all about."

"Local families shouldn't have to miss out on community sport due to outdated facilities. Only the Liberals and Nationals will deliver this important local upgrade."

Liberal Candidate for Ringwood, Cynthia Watson, said this important upgrade would be a significant win for growing local communities.

"After the world's longest lockdown, supporting communities to reconnect and get active again is so critical in our plan to recover and rebuild."

"The Rings is a much used and loved community facility. With this important upgrade, it can continue to support locals for many years to come."
