The Australian Government has today announced Dr Stuart Minchin as the new CEO and Director of Meteorology of the Bureau of Meteorology.
Dr Minchin will join the Bureau from Pacific Community, a science and technology for development organisation in the Pacific region, where he has been the Director General since 2020. He previously held roles at Geoscience Australia, CSIRO and was Principal Scientist with the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment.
In addition, Dr Minchin has represented Australia in key international forums and was Australia's Principal Delegate to both the UN Global Geospatial Information Management Group of Experts (UNGGIM) and the Intergovernmental Group on Earth Observations (GEO).
As a respected and experienced leader, Dr Minchin has a background in environmental data management and modelling as well as a long track record of developing and delivering transformational and innovative projects in environmental and natural resource management.
Dr Minchin's appointment follows the 9-year tenure of former CEO and Director of Meteorology Dr Andrew Johnson PSM, who led the Bureau until September 2025.
Dr Minchin will commence at the Bureau on 10 November 2025.
