- PlayOn WA delivers Burrendah Reserve's $49,051 changeroom upgrades
- Part of WA Football's $2 million Community Sporting Venues Retrofitting Project
- Upgrades provide more inclusive, accessible facilities for local players and umpires
- Part of the Cook Government's commitment to delivering quality infrastructure and more inclusive communities
The Cook Government's continued investment in grassroots sport has delivered upgraded changeroom facilities at Burrendah Reserve in Willetton, enhancing access and inclusivity for local teams and community groups.
The upgrades form part of WA Football's Community Sporting Venues Retrofitting Project, which is backed by $1 million through the State Government's Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund.
Delivered in collaboration with the WA Football Facilities Fund and the West Coast Eagles Royalty Reserve, the project is revitalising changerooms across the Perth Football League network to meet modern standards.
The work is part of PlayOn WA: 2030 by 2030 - the Cook Government's bold new initiative helping to guide investment in community sporting infrastructure through to 2030.
Completed works totalling more than $49,000 include:
- installation of new shower partitions in home, away, and umpire changerooms;
- removal of outdated urinals and replacement with more accessible facilities; and
- new toilet partitions in the away changeroom.
The investment ensures the changerooms at Burrendah Reserve are more welcoming, functional and inclusive - supporting the growing number of players, particularly women and girls, participating in community football.
Across the metropolitan area, this partnership approach - with contributions from clubs, local government, the Western Australian Government and football's governing bodies - is helping to deliver fit-for-purpose facilities that meet the needs of a rapidly growing game.
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:
"Football is at the heart of so many communities, and facilities like these make a real difference in ensuring the game is welcoming and open to everyone.
"Our government is proud to invest in grassroots sport and to work with WA Football, local governments, and clubs to deliver changerooms that are safe, inclusive, and future-ready.
"The upgrades at Burrendah Reserve are a great example of how this collaboration can deliver lasting benefits for local players, umpires, volunteers, and the wider community.
"These upgrades will support the growing number of people taking part in community football - especially women and girls - and will ensure everyone feels welcome and supported".
As stated by Riverton MLA Jags Krishnan:
"We want to see more women and girls getting involved in local sport in our community and this starts with having facilities that are fit-for-purpose, accessible and inclusive.
"These much-needed upgrades at Burrendah Reserve will ensure more people can get involved and experience the incredible benefits of local sport.
"The Cook Government is committed to investing in grassroots sport because we know it builds healthier, stronger and more connected communities."
As stated by WA Football CEO Michael Roberts:
"We've made some significant and exciting progress in the Community Sporting Venues Retrofitting Project - with eight sites completed and a further five currently scheduled.
"It was great to see Burrendah Reserve come to life during the recent Perth Football League women's grand finals following the site's recent refurbishment through this project.
"Women and girls' football is our fastest-growing area in the State, reaching a record-high of 16,790 participants in football programs in 2025 - so it's vital that our number of gender-neutral amenities reflect this.
"Once this retrofitting project is completed, the Perth Football League and its venues will be nearing 100 per cent gender-neutral player and umpire changeroom amenities.
"We thank the State Government and West Coast Eagles Football Club for their funding assistance, and to the local governments and Perth Football League for their collaboration in helping make this project happen."
