Applications are now open for a Logan City Council program helping Year 12 students take the next step towards university.
The City of Logan Tertiary Education Bursaries provide successful applicants with $5,000 over three years to help make the move to university a little easier.
Mayor Jon Raven said the bursaries had helped remove some of the barriers that can stand in the way of university study.
"University can open doors, but we know the cost can be a challenge for some people," Mayor Raven said.
"These bursaries give Logan students a helping hand and make sure our talented young people have the opportunity to reach their potential."
Mayor Raven encouraged eligible students to consider applying.
"I'd encourage any Year 12 student thinking about university next year to have a look at the program and put their hand up."
Past bursary recipient Mina Sharifi, who is studying a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Art (majoring in Economics and Political Science) at the University of Queensland, said the bursary helped her pay for textbooks and other costs associated with her study.
"I have also met some of the most wonderful students through this opportunity who share similar academic interests as me, and it is always a pleasure to catch up with them at University," she said.
Mina aspires to have a career in international criminal law post-university.
The program is funded by Council and community sponsors.
Applications are open until December 29, 2026.
