- Community feedback sought on new bus network to support Byford Rail Extension
- New routes will be added and others updated to enhance connections to train station
- Nearly half a million bus service kilometres to be added to network
- Consultation on new bus routes will be open until 16 June 2025
Community consultation is now open on new and amended bus routes to support the new METRONET Byford Station, giving those in the wider Byford area greater public transport options for years to come.
The changes will include improvements in general frequency and operating hours, with 10 additional buses servicing an additional 445,000 kilometres a year.
Community feedback is being sought on the proposed bus network, which will see:
- seven new and modified bus routes operating at the new Byford Station;
- significant improvements to existing peak, off-peak and weekend frequencies with an increased span of operating hours in Byford, Whitby and Mundijong;
- a new bus route to service new residential growth areas in Hilbert; and
- integrated bus services connecting to trains at Byford Station.
The community can provide feedback at www.mysaytransport.wa.gov.au . The consultation period closes 16 June 2025.
Final routes as well as timetables for train services and the supporting bus network for surrounding suburbs will also be made available before passenger services start when the remainder of the Armadale Line opens later this year.
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"The new train station in Byford is going be a game changer for the community, and the enhanced bus network will be critical to connecting people to our world-class rail network.
"Not only will the changes support connectivity to the new station, but they will also see new services in growing suburbs for the first time.
"It is important the community take their time to review and provide their feedback on these changes to ensure the bus network best aligns with community needs."
As stated by Darling Range MLA Hugh Jones:
"The new Byford train station will transform our community, and I can't wait to see it open for services later this year.
"I encourage everyone to take this opportunity and get involved in the consultation process by reviewing the proposed changes and providing your feedback on the new bus network."
As stated by Oakford MLA Yaz Mubarakai:
"We've seen right across the south-east of Perth the transformative impact of METRONET, and now communities in and around Byford will see the same positive benefits.
"The consultation is an important opportunity for people to review the proposed enhancements to the bus network, and I encourage people to take the time to provide feedback."
