Business as usual for city schools

Roger Jaensch, Minister for Education, Children and Youth

The Rockliff Liberal Government has confirmed that Hobart City High School and Elizabeth College will remain as separate entities, rather than merging, after seeking the views of the schools' communities.

Minister for Education, Children and Youth, Roger Jaensch, said the Government had reviewed the 3P Advisory report into the future operating model for the school and accept the report's finding that a clear majority of those consulted prefer the separate model.

"The 3P Advisory report found there was overwhelming support for Hobart City High School (HCHS) and Elizabeth College (EC) to remain as separate entities but to continue to operate in partnership," Minister Jaensch said.

"This also means Hobart City High School will continue to deliver more Years 11 and 12 subjects that meet the needs of their students and the government's commitments.

"The findings from the consultation were overwhelmingly in favour of this proposal and we thank those involved in expressing their wishes and sentiments so clearly."

Feedback and input was sought from a wide group of stakeholders, including school staff, students, families, school associations, non-government schools, the AEU and wider Hobart community.

Minister Jaensch said the Rockliff Liberal Government is committed to delivering the best learning outcomes and opportunities for students.

Elizabeth College and Hobart City High School each coordinate Years 11 and 12 subjects on their respective sites.

They formed the Hobart City Partner Schools Partnership in 2021 and work closely together to give students strong learning pathways for employment, further training or higher education.
