The Business Council of Australia welcomes the Government's Cyber Security Strategy and the measures it includes to protect businesses and consumers from the rising cyber threat, which is increasing in both sophistication and scale, Business Council Chief Executive Bran Black said.
"Hardening Australia's cyber defences is an urgent priority to protect businesses and consumers," Mr Black said.
"Businesses face cyber-attacks each and every day and their sophistication and scale are increasing so we are pleased to see a renewed focus in bringing together Government, businesses and experts to ensure Australians are protected."
According to the Australian Signals Director there were nearly 94,000 cyber reports made to law enforcement annually through ReportCyber - around one every 6 minutes.
Mr Black said the Government has listened to the concerns of business and struck the right balance.
"This is particularly the case on the single reporting portal, no-fault, no-liability ransomware reporting regime and the limited use obligations for government's cyber experts.
"The focus is rightly on equipping businesses with the tools to protect against cyber threats not adding paperwork and onerous reporting requirements.
"It is also encouraging that Government has doubled down on the Digital ID program and a review of Commonwealth data retention requirements."
