  • Plastic waste in Busselton is set to reduce with the launch of Busselton Water's BYO Bottle program this long weekend.

The program will see drinking fountains offered free-of-charge at community events to encourage patrons to avoid single-use plastic drink bottles and instead refill their own reusable bottles.

The Busselton City Football Club will be the first to host the drinking fountains as the club prepares to welcome more than 400 people from Perth, the Wheatbelt, Albany and the South-West at the 50th anniversary of the LiveLighter Busselton Soccer Carnival this Queen's Birthday long weekend.

Event organisers of upcoming events in the Busselton area can apply to for the water fountains by completing an application form at https://www.busseltonwater.wa.gov.au/

As stated by Water Minister Dave Kelly:

"Supporting the development of sustainable, liveable communities is a priority for the McGowan Government.

"Western Australians love outdoor events and Busselton's vibrant event calendar attracts tens of thousands of locals and visitors over summer. They can now look forward to fresh drinking water 'on tap' to fill their reusable bottles.

"Busselton Water's BYO Bottle program will save thousands of single-use plastic bottles from entering the local waste stream.

"I encourage all local event organisers to take advantage of the BYO Bottle program and partner with Busselton Water to reduce waste and create a more sustainable community."
