Swan Hill Rural City Council is excited to announce the commencement of a comprehensive road upgrade and drainage improvements along Butterworth Street in Swan Hill.
Works are scheduled to begin on Monday, 12 February 2024.
Swan Hill Rural City Council's Director Infrastructure Leah Johnston said the project aimed to enhance existing infrastructure and ensure the long-term viability of the Butterworth Street area.
"The project includes re-construction of the road between Holloway Grove and Berrybank Drive, and an extension of the footpath from Derham Drive to the childcare centre.
"Works also include approximately 600m of drainage between the Main Drain and Berrybank Drive," she said.
Ms Johnston said contractors were committed to maintaining access for residents throughout the entire construction period.
"We recognise the project will create some temporary disruption to residents and we will be aiming to minimise this as much as we can. The project will be staged to mitigate inconvenience to residents in the area.
"We understand the importance of Butterworth Street to our community, and we are committed to delivering crucial upgrades with the least possible impact on residents.
"Contractors will be doing door knocking impacted areas and giving residents information about project, stages," she said.
Ms Johnston said the project was expected to take approximately five months, with the completion date set for the end of June 2024.
"Our timeframe allows for the careful execution of each stage, addressing both the road upgrades and drainage improvements.
"We apologise for any inconvenience and encourage motorists to please be patient and follow the road signage put in place," Ms Johnston said.
Ms Johnston took the opportunity to highlight to residents that in addition to this scope of works, Council was also aware of ongoing drainage limitations in this area and across Swan Hill.
"I would like to remind residents that in addition to these works, a comprehensive Drainage Strategy is being developed to identify the highest priority works to minimise flooding.
"Whilst the current schedule of works in Butterworth Street will assist, it is only a small part of an overall solution," Ms Johnston said.
Further works will be programmed and funded in coming years once the Drainage Strategy is finalised.
