Assault police and property charges, Cairns

Officers from the Far North District Tactical Crime Squad were on patrol in McLeod Street, yesterday 9 September, when they observed three people in a white Holden Barina.

It will be alleged it was driving with false plates and evaded police earlier in the day at Palm Cove.

It will be further alleged all three occupants fled on foot and a 19-year-old man scaled multiple fences before officers located him in Charles Street.

Police further allege the man resisted arrest, head butting one officer and spitting in the face of another during the arrest.

Police searched the vehicle before police allegedly located a quantity of stolen property, dangerous drugs namely methylamphetamines, utensils, a taser, knife, stolen property and two sets of stolen number plates inside the vehicle.

It is further alleged a 22-year-old woman was searched at the watchhouse and was found in possession of a quantity of methylamphetamines.

She was charged with one count each of possess dangerous drug schedule one with a quantity exceeding schedule 3 but less than schedule 4, unlawful possession of suspected stolen property, possess category R weapon namely a taser, possess a knife in public and obstruct police.

Detectives charged a 19-year-old Manoora man with one count each of enter with intent, enter dwelling and commit, stealing from the person, breach of a domestic violence order, obstruct police and two counts of serious assault police.

A 27-year-old Edmonton man was charged with one count each of possess dangerous drugs namely methylamphetamine, possess a thing used in connection of a dangerous drug and obstruct police.

All three are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 25 September.

Cairns Property Crime Squad officers yesterday charged a 14-year-old Westcourt boy with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of common assault.

Police allege the boy committed a burglary at Bentley Park on September 3, where two vehicles were stolen before he used a stolen Toyota Rav 4 and a Mazda CX9 without the consent of the owners on September 4.

At about 1.20am on September 4, police allege the boy with others, arrived at a Cairns North fuel station in a stolen vehicle, pulled in behind a parked vehicle before physically assaulting a 49-year-old woman and stealing her car.

He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court on September 17.
